Show the worn part. The estimate stops being an opinion.

What documenting an estimate with photo or video does to approval rates and ticket size, the study behind the numbers, and how to do it without slowing the job down.

Why does a photograph change whether an estimate is approved?

A photograph turns an estimate from a claim into evidence, and the effect has been measured. Cox Automotive, surveying about two and a half thousand consumers, found that documenting findings with photo or video raised the average repair order by two hundred and thirty dollars and made customers forty-nine percent more likely to approve the work. The mechanism is trust rather than persuasion: somebody who can see the worn part is not being asked to take a stranger's word for a number. The same logic holds well outside a workshop — a camera down a drain, a thermal image of a failing panel, a photograph of the flashing that let the water in. Orabeam attaches photographs to each line of an estimate so the customer approves or declines them one at a time, which also leaves the business a record of exactly what was shown and what was agreed to.

How much difference does it actually make?

Cox Automotive's consumer research puts it at +$230 on the average repair order and 49% more likely to approve, across a sample of about 2,5001. That study is automotive, and it should be read as automotive; the mechanism generalises but the numbers were measured in one trade.

Does it slow the technician down?

Only if the photograph has to be emailed. The cost is in the handling, not the taking — a phone camera is already in the technician's pocket.

What makes it workable is the estimate itself being line-by-line: the photo attaches to the finding it belongs to, and the customer approves that line rather than the whole document. A single approve-or-decline on a total is what produces the phone call the shop was trying to avoid.

What does it protect you from?

A disputed invoice. When the customer approved a line with a photograph attached to it, the record of what was shown, when, and what they said, exists without anybody having to remember it.

Orabeam keeps that record with the job and exports it with everything else, on any tier.
